Hey Joel,
Yeah ... you may be right in the case of several of the participants, though not necessarily the ones you mention (I've removed names from your note). In all, I tend to agree with what Reich himself said in the tape ... that they hate/fear the orgone itself.. They dread feeling the excitation in their minds/bodies when the armor is loosened. They sense the horror of what it might be like to lose their self-importance .. to feel their true smallness ... and above all (I agree with Eric Hoffer, longshoreman and author of the hugely popular "The True Believer" on this count ... as well as with Hobbes' vision of the "natural state") ... they absolutely reject their own feeling -- their perception/apprehen sion-- of ALONE ness /individuality ... separation from all other armored people (the herd) and, paradoxically, from the universal ONEness that we share with each other as well as all other forms of life. To emotionally accept the
lack of a connecting umbilicus -- psychologically, professionally, as well as actually -- to any other person is to experience in ones body/mind what has been termed "pelvic horror" ... the antithesis (flip side) of nirvana. Looks like YOU are the "therapist" who calls it to our attention, ey?

It is an ANTI-Reich list.
Anything can be said against Reich, but anyone who actually agrees with anything Reich said is not welcome.
Some of the others have adopted Reich as their father-figure, and since they hate their fathers so much, they have transferred that hatred onto Reich. And anyone who supports Reich and his ideas comes in for the same hostility.
But since hatred of Reich is unacceptable, just as hate of ones father was when they were children, they hide it behind rationalizations and refuse to admit they hate Reich. If as children, they had admitted to hate for their fathers, they would have been punished, so they are afraid to say openly that they hate Reich.
The list is a form of therapy, allowing them to vent their hate for Reich without being punished for it. But the therapy fails to resolve. They remain permanently stuck in the same place, never getting it out in the open and being able to recognize it for what it is because there is no therapist there to call it to their attention.

LOL The former may or may not be so. The latter is quite an in-depth character analysis. Good thing we have an occasional "freak" that stands out from the herd to advance humanity's understanding of itself and it's situation in the vastness of universe.

Yes ... I also want to thank you, Jurgen. I've never before had the opportunity to experience Reich's voice, to listen to his breathing as he expresses his sense of profound aloneness and his frustrated desire to share his understanding of his discoveries with his well-meaning (and, naturally, armored) close friends and colleagues. How tragic, to me, that Reich didn't understand that he, too, in presenting that account of his pain and angry frustration on tape, was (necessarily) coming not from his core (his feelings), but from his armored, individuated, self -- namely, that little embodied enclosure of orgone energy that other of us -- his fellow ALONE individuals in the world --- have come to know (more every day) as "Dr. Wilhelm Reich." I can't know that a deeper understanding of the function of the armor would've made Reich any "happier," but it might have provided him some relief from the resentment/frustrat ion that he experienced. The armor is what it is, whether or not we like that it exists .. and that it separates us from each other, distorts communication, skews our most well-intended efforts to reach out and love one another. It's hard to live with it, but impossible to function in the world without it. Dayum !!

It is the sharing of information like this which makes subscribing to the OML so worthwhile to me.=Listening to the rhythm and timbre of Reich's voice; hearing him pour out his deepest feelings about his perceived co-workers' resistance to open up to life energy along with their lack of appreciation for him and his efforts; observing the way he sees himself in the context of the intellectual evolution of the human race; and noting how he connected all the dots in the succinct, overall summary of his life and his work-including the mentioning of his mother's death forty years prior to the recording: all this not only gave me a major key to understanding Reich's character, but it also confirmed my own intuitions, understanding, and perspective of the man when I first felt compelled to read, study, and digest his life and work, over thirty years ago.John-Michael
